Aston Villa are closing in on a solution to their issues at centre back, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer expert claims Villa have agreed personal terms with Chelsea’s Axel Disasi who, he says, wants to move to Villa Park despite interest from across Europe.

Romano says talks with Unai Emery have been a key factor and the next stage is for Chelsea and Villa to agree the terms of a loan until the end of the season.

Disasi, who can play right back or central defender, has started all six of Chelsea’s Europa Conference League matches so far this season but has been less well-used in the Premier League.

Indeed the Frenchman has started only four of Cheslea’s 23 league matches and made just six appearances in all. He has played 61 times for the Blues since joining from Monaco for €45m in 2023.

Speaking a week ago Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was asked about Disasi and Tosin Adarabioyo and said: “At the moment they are both us. The intention is not to allow them to go, but we are in January and anything can happen.”

Chelsea have their own issues at centre back which led to the recall of Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace, while Disasi was an unused substitute against Manchester City. But Villa’s are arguably even more pressing. With Pau Torres out, Diego Carlos gone Emery suffered another set-back when Tyrone Mings picked up a knee injury against West Ham.
