Jaden Philogene has completed his permanent transfer to Ipswich Town from Aston Villa.

The winger has moved in a deal worth around £20m plus add-ons just six months after re-signing for Villa from Hull City. The Tigers had bought him in the summer of 2023 for £5m, but given his strong campaign in 2023/24, Unai Emery moved to bring him back to Villa Park last summer.

Villa held a ‘matching rights’ option and triggered that clause when Ipswich Town saw an £18m bid accepted in July. Due to their 30 per cent sell-on clause, Villa essentially paid £13m for Philogene and have now made a quick profit on him.

The 22-year-old only made two Premier League starts for Villa this season, while he didn’t feature in the club's last five league matches.

Philogene impressed against Bayern Munich in the Champions League playing from the right, but he rarely operated in his favoured role off the left.

Earlier this month, Emery admitted that a loan move was one option for Philogene, since he believes in his potential, but the club was happy to accept the offer which Ipswich presented.

“I believe in Jaden Philogene, but we are, of course, always trying to get the best for the club, for the squad, the team, and the players,” Emery said of the winger earlier this week.

“If he is leaving, it is because it is good for those three options. The club is working [in January, more generally].”
