Aston Villa completed the signing of young Turkish defender Yasin Ozcan before the January transfer window deadline passed on Monday night, and they have allowed him to remain with his current club Kasimpasa for the second half of the season. That's according to the Athletic, who add that Villa have paid €7m up front with the potential of €1m in add-ons.

Ozcan is only 18 but has already accumulated a startling amount of first-team experience for someone so young; the defender has 73 appearances for Kasimpasa in the Super Lig after making his debut at just 16 in the spring of 2022.

Ozcan, who scored his side's winner against Besiktas on the final day of last season, has played 20 times this term for Kasimpasa, who sit comfortably in mid-table in the Super Lig at the halfway stage of their campaign. He made the bench for Turkey in their Nations League defeat in Montengro in November.

Villa were busy adding senior players for the here and now in the January window; Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio, Axel Disasi and Donyell Malen are all considered options to Unai Emery in the second half of the season, while young right-back Andres Garcia was an opportunistic addition in the window.

The signing of Ozcan follows the theme Villa have adopted in recent windows, in which they scour the far corners of Europe in order to identify the best young talent and tie up affordable deals which could eventually look like bargains. They completed a similar deal for Kosta Nedeljkovic, who has since left for RB Leipzig on loan, 12 months ago, allowing him to remain at Red Star Belgrade in the second half of last season.
