Aston Villa are keen on former Manchester City full back Joao Cancelo, according to a report in Spain.

Website Fichajes claims Villa are one of three clubs tracking the Portugal international who they say is enjoying a ‘renaissance’ in the Saudi Pro League.

They claim Villa, AC Milan and Manchester United have had their interest ‘sparked’ as Cancelo impresses at Al Hilal, whom he joined for a reported £21million last summer.

That ended a five-year relationship with City, although he did spend the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Barcelona. In all he ended up making 154 appearances under Pep Guardiola with whom he won three Premier League titles and the FA and League Cups.

He signed a three-year contract with the Riyadh-based outfit and has played 27 matches and also added two more international caps to take his total to 60.

The report claims Villa have ‘ entered the bidding’ and that Unai Emery believes the 30-year-old can be a ‘key piece’ in his squad.

Villa signed Andres Garcia in the January window, to add competition to Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa can also played on the right.
