Aston Villa could part with deputy goalkeeper Robin Olsen this transfer window, ahead of the expiry of his contract in the summer. Swedish international Olsen, 34, signed on loan initially from AS Roma in the January window of 2022 to provide cover for undisputed first choice Emiliano Martinez, and Villa signed him permanently the following summer for around £3m.

Olsen has remained a bit part player in those two and a half years, making only ten Premier League appearances in Martinez's absence, and has featured only 45 minutes this term, in the second half of the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea when Martinez was unable to continue after half time.

The Swedish international missed the first portion of the season through injury but was likely to be entering the final months of his Villa career with no new contract expected, but Villa could actually act before the summer with a return to Danish side FC Copenhagen proposed this month.

The 34-year-old spent two years between 2016 and 2018 at Copenhagen, making more than 70 appearances for the club, and it's reported in Denmark that the club have entered into negotiations with Villa regarding a move to bring Olsen back this month, ahead of the expiring of his contract.

Meanwhile, Villa are also understood to be sanctioning the loan departure of Joe Gauci this window too; the Australian signed a year ago this month but he has made only two appearances, against Wycombe Wanderers and Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup this season.

Australia international Gauci signed a four-and-a-half-year deal upon joining Villa last year after making 76 appearances for Adelaide. He has seven caps for his nation, with six of them coming after joining Villa. He has kept four clean sheets for the Socceroos since making his debut in March 2023.
