Aston Villa given Jhon Duran transfer response as announcement due over £64m deal
Aston Villa's breakthrough star Jhon Duran looks set to leave the club at the end of the January transfer window, with the club reportedly agreeing to a windfall sum for their young forward - but some Villa fans in the BirminghamLive comments section say that the time cannot be right to part with Ollie Watkins' competition.
Villa are said to have accepted a bid of €77 million (£64 million) for Duran from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, with a medical booked in London. He was on the bench in the club's 4-2 win over Celtic in the Champions League and was the subject of several questions in Emery's post-match press conference.
Emery said: "You know my opinion about him. He has fantastic potential. I was trying to get him with my advice for everything. I was so, so close with him, working with him in his development. The players have their ambitions and sometimes they are impatient. If he leaves it is because he wants to do another way in his career."

This comes as Villa angrily rejected a bid from Arsenal for Ollie Watkins, which would leave Emery's side short going into the final days of the transfer window. A £60 million bid was turned away, but the Gunners are expected to try again.
For some fans, the sale of Duran would represent a big windfall. Reader Smashed says: “€77 million with add-ons, total package worth €90 million, incredible profit for the amount of time he has been at the club. Now Unai will focus on incoming players and Felix has been a long term target along with a couple of others, sorry to lose Jhon but a fantastic outcome is very likely all things considered.”
Ozvilla worries that time is tight: “Fair enough, we sell a player who isn't getting game time and we make a huge profit. But, we now desperately need another quality forward, two centre-backs and a right back. It's going to be a busy 24 hours I reckon. I fully expect several quality incomings before the window closes.”
Morrison123 agrees: “The next few days will shape our season, we need a quality CF to help and to bring in competition for Watkins, it as to be a marquee signing... but the problem is with only a few days left of the window, clubs know we have money and know we need a new CF, and we are gonna be in direct competition with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, & Tottenham also looking for the same thing.”
Avfc1 writes: “Really good business for us - not sure Duran was ever an Emery type of player. Some great goals but NO assists says it all, invest this windfall well now. In Unai we trust!”
For others, it's a shame for both player and club. BigMill69 says: “Waste of a great player.” Creation writes: “The fact is, we wouldn’t be in the last 16 if it weren’t for the brilliance of Jhon Durán.”
Chosen in 1957 says: “An unbelievable decision to sell Jhon. Why was he on the bench if they knew he wouldn't be playing? No alternatives up front if Ollie gets injured. We should have kept him until the end of the season at least.”
Villajack2 says: “Unpopular opinion in B6 but I'd keep Duran and sell Ollie. I think Ollie's reached his ceiling with us and misses too many easy chances. Duran is more a natural finisher and partners better with Rogers (Ollie partnered better with Diaby). Plus Ollie's 29, so if we want big money for him then it needs to happen within 12 months.”
