Aston Villa 'join chase' for Matheus Cunha transfer as Wolves stance explained
Aston Villa are reportedly monitoring Matheus Cunha's situation at Wolves, but a move would hinge on them generating funds.
The 25-year-old forward has been in stunning form for Wolves this season, scoring 10 goals and registering four assists in 21 appearances. It follows a strong campaign in 2023/24 when Cunha bagged 12 times and made seven assists in 32 total appearances.
He scored at Villa Park back in September, before Unai Emery's side staged a comeback to win 3-1. That remains the only victory Villa have earned after a Champions League match this season.

The Daily Mail have reported that Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United are all said to be keen on the Brazil international, with Villa now contemplating joining the chase.
However, due to Profit and Sustainability Rules, Villa will have to generate funds to make a big splash on an expensive player in the winter window. They bought Donyell Malen for a similar fee to what Ipswich Town paid for Jaden Philogene, while Andres Garcia joined for £6m from Levante.
Monchi is also going to sign a new centre-back before the deadline on February 3 after selling Diego Carlos for £8.5m to Fenerbahce. Jhon Duran, who has been the subject of intense transfer speculation in recent weeks, is said to be of interest to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.
While Villa are insistent that Duran is not for sale, Al-Nassr are still preparing a bid which they hope to tempt the Premier League club.
As for Cunha, Wolves are determined to keep him and have opened talks over extending his contract, with two-and- a-half years already left on it.
They do not want to sell Cunha ahead of a crucial second half of the campaign and are also said to be under no financial pressure to sell any players.
