Aston Villa are interested in PSG forward Marco Asensio, according to a report in France.

Website RMC Sport claims Villa are looking at Asensio as a potential alternative to Jhon Duran, with PSG one of several clubs said to be keen on the 21-year-old.

Duran, who has now completed the three-game suspension he picked up against Newcastle United on Boxing Day, has been regularly linked with a move away from Villa Park – despite the fact he has finally broken into the first team and agreed a new contract just a few months ago.

While the story does not suggest a swap arrangement between Villa and the Ligue 1 outfit, it does say Villa like Asensio’s ‘versatile profile’, it does say ‘mutual interest’ could lubricate the wheels on a potential deal that would see the forward’s cross over.

Asensio has made only ten starts so far this season and none since November 22, indeed he has been an unused substitute in three of the last four league games.

The 28-year-old Spain international came through at Mallorca before spending nearly a decade at Real Madrid for whom he provided 93 goal contributions in 286 matches. He moved to PSG in the summer of 2023 and has 18 months left on that deal.

Villa have been linked with several attacking players, with Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen perhaps most extensively so. Another rumbling rumour has been Duran’s departure from Villa Park, with the likes of Chelsea, PSG and Barcelona all credited with an interest.
