Aston Villa have released a new, commemorative kit to mark their 150th anniversary this year, which will be released on Thursday. Villa, founded in 1874, have plans in place to celebrate the club's milestone and have kicked things off by unveiling their one-off strip.

Villa welcome West Ham in the FA Cup this coming Friday night for a third round tie, and when they do they'll don a smart all-black kit which has been designed and produced by kit manufacturers and club partners adidas. The black is a nod to the kit Villa wore in their inception, before they adopted their more traditional claret and blue.

The original Scottish lion rampant, identified and adopted by William McGregor, will replace the modern day badge for one match. There'll be no additional advertising or sponsorship on the shirts to ensure that the kits are as traditional as possible.

"While paying homage to our beloved club’s history, the shirts will also feature adidas' Aeroready technology as well as the famous three stripes in all black," Villa said in a club statement. "Principal partners Betano and Trade Nation have both kindly donated their branding space back to the club for the fixture, allowing us to create this historic look."

Villa, who added that the shirt will be available to buy via the club's online shop and in JD Sports, will also be releasing a 'culture wear' range to complement the tops. The new shirt has been modelled by a host of current Men's players, including Amadou Onana, John McGinn, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, Morgan Rogers and Jacob Ramsey.

“This unique anniversary kit was designed by adidas with the inspiration to deliver authenticity which is coming from the great, William McGregor," president of football operations Chris Heck said. “We are so grateful to have partners that go above and beyond our partnership for the good of the fans, thank you adidas and thank you Betano and Trade Nation.”
