Aston Villa suffer defender set-back as rivals Tottenham revive transfer deal
Aston Villa’s hopes of plugging their defensive gaps with Chelsea defender Axel Disasi appear to be receding.
That’s after The Athletic claimed Tottenham, who are today making a habit of resuscitating seemingly dead deals, are back in talks with their London rivals.
They are also in negotiations with the player who was thought to prefer Villa and the lure of Champions League football to a move across the capital and the Europa League.

While Villa are currently without Tyrone Mings, Pau Torres and the departed Diego Carlos, Spurs have already made one move to shore things up at the back having signed Kevin Danso on loan from Lens.
They have been linked with Disasi for several weeks but could not hammer out a deal due to Chelsea’s demands. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea were bargaining hard because they view Villa as a rival for Champions League qualification next season.
The 26-year-old, who can play at centre back or right back, which is exactly what Villa need, has played 17 times for the Blues this season but his move to Stamford Bridge from Monaco in August 2023 has not been particularly successful.
