Aston Villa will resume their attempts to complete a double transfer swoop on Villarreal in the summer.

That’s according to TBR Football, who claim Villa will make fresh bids for Alex Baena and Juan Foyth when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

Villa were extensively linked with both players in the January window and TBR claim they even held talks with defender Foyth before they ended up signing Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea. The Frenchman will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and Unai Emery’s interest is expected to continue.

Villa were also linked with winger Baena, as were Nottingham Forest, Atletico Madrid and Al Ahli and it is claimed he has a €60m release clause in his contract. However, Villarreal did not want to lose either player in the winter window.

Sports director Miguel Ángel Tena said earlier this week: “When you have great players, you know there will be clubs interested in them. We were clear that both Alex and Juan did not want to leave here. So knowing that, we were also clear it was not the time to leave mid-season in winter. In both cases we are calm because we were aware that they did not want to leave.

“They have a contract. They are two players who are highly regarded by the club. They are two players who we have a lot of affection for. They are two very important players and it is a pride to be able to enjoy them. Once the transfer market is over, we will have meetings with the coaching staff to see what we do with these players in the future. Both players want to continue at Villarreal.”

TBR are now claiming both players are "more than happy to listen" to what Unai Emery has to say in the summer when Marcus Rashford will also end his loan at Villa.
