Aston Villa v Southampton statement released as Storm Darragh batters UK and Merseyside Derby off
Aston Villa have released a statement ahead of their clash against Southampton on Saturday as Storm Darragh continues to batter the UK.
Unai Emery's side got back to winning ways on Wednesday after beating Brentford 3-1 at Villa Park. The victory at B6 was Villa's first in any competition since a 2-0 win over Bologna on October 22.
Emery's team have now moved up to eighth in the Premier League and will be looking to climb the table when they host relegation strugglers Southampton this weekend. The clash at Villa Park, set to kick off at 3pm, comes amid extreme weather problems which have seen a rare red weather warning issued in parts of the UK.

The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool was called off early on Saturday due to the weather, and Villa have advised fans attending today's match to take extra time when travelling.
"We want to advise all supporters to allow extra time for travel to today's game due to poor weather conditions across the country," they said in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Please take extra care and stay safe. We look forward to seeing you at the game."
When asked on Friday about team news against Southampton, Emery said: "It is being very difficult because we play matches every three days, even we played Juventus and then Leipzig next week. It is the most difficult challenge we can have.
"Today I don’t know exactly which players are available tomorrow [on Saturday]. Some are doubts, yesterday some had pain and some are tired. We are going to train now this afternoon. I think until tomorrow morning, only then it will be clear who will start the match."
