A brave resistance by 10-man Ipswich Town keeps Aston Villa at bay, as the Tractor Boys hang on for a 1-1 draw at Villa Park. Kieran McKenna's men were up against it when Tuanzebe was sent off shortly before half-time, but they even struck first - danger man Delap netting his 10th Premier League goal of the season with a typically clinical finish. Thereafter, it was backs to the wall, as Villa - inspired by subs Rashford and Asensio - laid siege to the visitors' goal, and only a series of saves from debutant Palmer kept Ipswich on level terms. Despite their recent success in cup competitions, Villa continue to stutter in the English top flight: it's now four league games without a win for Unai Emery's side, who couldn't produce a late winner although their xG of 2.01 far exceeded the 0.36 managed by Ipswich. While they will host Liverpool and then Chelsea in the coming week, their relegation-threatened opponents are set to face Tottenham next time out. That's all from Birmingham today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!

Persistent work from Maatsen on the left byline earns Villa yet another corner-kick - their 15th of this match. First, Asensio has a shot blocked, then Rogers sees an attempt cleared by Woolfenden.
Aston Villa vs Ipswich Town
16:53
Heavily involved in almost all of Aston Villa's attacks since leaving the bench, Asensio is caught offside. Again, that allows Palmer to take his time and kill a few more seconds - Ipswich are so close to claiming a point.
Aston Villa vs Ipswich Town
16:49
Palmer leaves his line to fingertip away a curling corner by Asensio, giving Ipswich some breathing space. Villa soon reclaim possession, though, and resume their relentless siege. Since Rashford and Asensio came on, the hosts have been totally on top.

When a Tielemans free-kick from the right flank is not fully cleared by a tiring Ipswich defence, Rashford - who is left in space at the back post - shoots over the crossbar by some distance. Time is running out for Aston Villa to win this.

Unbeaten at home in 11 Premier League matches, Villa are now strong favourites to prevail: Opta's live win predictor gives them a 74% chance. If they can break through and score the opener, that might be enough to secure success - particularly as Ipswich have salvaged just three points from losing positions this season.
Aston Villa vs Ipswich Town
15:58
Seeking a first league win in four, Aston Villa are still all square with Ipswich Town at Villa Park, where it remains goalless at the break. The visitors defended resolutely and posed some threat on the counter, but ex-Villa man Tuanzebe was then booked twice and had to walk. His dismissal leaves the Tractor Boys facing a long second half, and Villa are surely set to step up their dominance. With an xG of 0.65 to Ipswich's 0.25 - plus a 67% share of possession - Emery's men should be leading already, but Watkins and Rogers both came close without finding the net.

Aston Villa vs Ipswich Town
15:45
Following the foul by a now-departed Tuanzebe on Ramsey, Aston Villa have a free-kick just a few feet outside the Ipswich area. After much consultation, McGinn opts to blast it, but the ball thuds into the first defender.

15:45
RED CARD! IPSWICH DOWN TO 10 MEN! On his return to Villa Park, Tuanzebe picks up two yellow cards before half-time and is sent off! He hauls back an on-rushing Ramsey just outside his own box, and he then has to pay the price.
Aston Villa vs Ipswich Town
15:45
Leaving Cajuste flat-footed with a swift change of direction, Rogers creates space and then plays in Tielemans 20 yards from goal. A proven specialist from such range, this time the Belgian curls his tame effort over the crossbar.
Aston Villa vs Ipswich Town
15:41
From a free-kick just inside Villa's half, Phillips sends an aimless high ball towards the left wing. Nothing ultimately comes of it, and that's his third sub-par set-piece of the game.

15:26
A tug by McGinn on Delap's sleeve results in Ipswich being awarded a free-kick. Phillips swings the ball over from around 30 yards out, and another foul sees the visitors earn another set-piece - this time, right on the edge of Villa's area.

15:18
Rogers feeds Malen on the edge of the area, but the latter's shot is diverted behind by a well-timed lunge from Townsend. Before Villa can take the subsequent corner-kick, Enciso sinks to the turf and calls for medical treatment - it doesn't look good for the Brighton loanee.
Aston Villa vs Ipswich Town
15:16
After Enciso wriggles away from McGinn around 20 yards out from goal, his deflected shot is sent straight towards Martinez, who makes a straightforward stop.
Aston Villa vs Ipswich Town

Having had only 27% of the ball so far, Ipswich are content to keep possession for a brief period, albeit without causing their hosts much threat. Delap tries to break free down the right but is again caught offside.

Ipswich were also winners in the FA Cup last weekend, when they swept Championship club Coventry City aside. The Tractor Boys now return to the Midlands intent on ending a four-match losing run in the Premier League. Recently beaten 2-1 at home by basement boys Southampton, Kieran McKenna’s men are three points adrift of safety. They have, though, accrued more points on the road than at Portman Road, where they drew 2-2 with Villa in September’s reverse fixture.

Last week, Aston Villa followed up progression to the Champions League’s last 16 by reaching the fifth round of the FA Cup, beating Tottenham 2-1 at Villa Park. The Birmingham club now have three more home games in a row, as they look to halt a three-match winless streak in the Premier League. Most recently, they were beaten by West Midlands rivals Wolves, and Unai Emery's men have since slipped down to ninth place in the table, with a six-point deficit to the top four.
