Aston Villa will face West Ham United twice in the space of 16 days later this month, across the Premier League and the FA Cup - and they'll do so without talisman Jarrod Bowen, who has been sidelined with a broken foot. Bowen was injured during the Irons' comprehensive 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Captain Bowen was forced off on the hour mark and replaced by Crysencio Summerville during the heavy defeat, which ended their mini four-game unbeaten run. Bowen, who signed for the club five years ago this month and who has racked up more than 200 appearances for the club, has continued to be their main man in attack this year with 10 goal contributions in 21 appearances.

The Londoners, under the regime of the beleaguered Julen Lopetegui, will have to cope without him for the next six to eight weeks, however, after Bowen's unforeseen setback. It comes at a time when the Hammers are already without leader of the line Michail Antonio, who continues to recover having been discharged from hospital after being involved in a car accident last month.

"Unfortunately in the first half of our game on Sunday I suffered a fracture to a bone in my foot," Bowen wrote on Instagram in the aftermath of the Liverpool game. "As always I tried to fight on and continue playing until I physically couldn't. Injuries happen in football but I'm already looking forward to getting back out there as soon as possible. See you all soon."

Villa welcome West Ham - having beaten them in the capital on the opening weekend of the season - to Villa Park for the third round of the FA Cup next Friday evening (10) before they entertain them again in the Premier League on the final Sunday of the month (26).
