Atalanta vs Bayer Leverkusen - LIVE!

Atalanta won their first major trophy in 61 years as a stunning hat-trick from Ademola Lookman ended Bayer Leverkusen’s extraordinary unbeaten run with a 3-0 win in the Europa League final.

Lookman scored twice inside the opening half an hour in Dublin and, for once, there was no response from Leverkusen. They toiled in the second-half, Atalanta always comfortable in their lead, and with 15 minutes an uphill task became a mountainous one, as Lookman rifled a finish into the top corner to claim the match ball and see off Leverkusen, who were beaten for the first time this season in any competition to end their 51-match streak.

Xabi Alonso’s side, Bundesliga champions this seasons, were two wins away from an ‘Invincible treble’ ahead of their trip to Ireland, with a German Cup final this weekend, but they managed just three shots on target and little in the way of sustained threat in the face of wonderful team performance from Atalanta. A first ever European title is only the second major piece of silverware in the club’s history.

There is the half-time whistle.

Atalanta have been superb, working so hard off the ball and ruthless when their chances have come.

Leverkusen haven’t got going, sloppy on the ball and looking rattled.

But... they are perfectly capable of coming from behind.

Atalanta 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Atalanta 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

20:19 , Matt Verri

18 mins: Alonso fairly animated on the touchline, won’t be particularly impressed with what he’s seen so far.

This is more like it, Frimpong getting in behind down the right for the first time.

Atalanta 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

20:16 , Matt Verri

Atalanta 0-0 Bayer Leverkusen

20:11 , Matt Verri

Atalanta 0-0 Bayer Leverkusen

20:08 , Matt Verri

8 mins: Now Xhaka gives it away, allowing Lookman to drive towards the Leverkusen box.

Plays it out to the left, cross fired in and Scamacca very nearly makes something of it at the back post. Ball bobbles wide.

Atalanta 0-0 Bayer Leverkusen

20:07 , Matt Verri

6 mins: Awful pass from Tapsoba, straight to De Ketelaere and it’s a chance for Atalanta to counter.

He takes too long to make a decision though, and Leverkusen scramble back to clear.

Atalanta 0-0 Bayer Leverkusen

20:04 , Matt Verri

3 mins: No surprise that it’s Leverkusen dominating possession.

Atalanta direct when they do win it back, already a few very hopeful balls lobbed forward.

Underway in the Europa League final!

20:00 , Matt Verri

Anthem done, handshakes done, flag waving done.

Time to get up and running.

Here we go!

19:55 , Matt Verri

Players will be out any minute.

Far too many people on the pitch, waving flags, ribbons and anything else they can get their hands on.

Alonso: No change in preparations

19:48 , Matt Verri

A huge occasion for both sides, but Xabi Alonso is confident his Bayer Leverkusen players will be able to treat it as just another match in an incredible season.

He said: “Our focus is preparing the game, not [as] a special game. We haven’t changed anything.

"We have played 51 games. The players have understanding. Now is the time to give our best.

"We have been preparing for this moment through the whole year. It’s not just today's job. I have a great team. The players are ready for sure. I have a good feeling it will not be different. We will respect Atalanta but we have confidence in our game."

Not long now!

Kick-off just under 20 minutes away, and it is already LOUD in Dublin.

How Roma have reached the final

19:35 , Matt Verri

Atalanta finished top of Group D, booking their place in the last-16.

It was a nervy encounter with Sporting, one they edged through 3-2 on aggregate, and that set up a clash with Liverpool.

A remarkable 3-0 win at Anfield proved enough, despite a 1-0 defeat at home in the second leg, and Atalanta then eased past Marseille in the semi-finals.

Now the big one.

How Leverkusen have reached the final

19:26 , Matt Verri

Bayer Leverkusen were the only side to win all six of their group-stage matches in the Europa League.

Six matches, six wins, 19 goals scored, three conceded. Pretty decent.

It was far more nervy in the last-16, where they trailed 4-3 on aggregate to Qarabag after 92 minutes of the second leg. Two goals followed in stoppage-time to turn that match around and keep the unbeaten run going.

West Ham were seen off in the quarter-finals, before more late drama in the last-four.

Leverkusen were 2-0 down at home to Roma, but scored in the 82nd and 97th minutes to draw 2-2 on the night and ease through 4-2 on aggregate.

Atalanta to spoil the party?

19:20 , Matt Verri

All the talk, inevitably, about Leverkusen at the moment, but Atalanta are capable of upsetting the odds.

Their sole major trophy came in 1963, but they came close to ending that long wait earlier this month when they were beaten in the Coppa Italia final by Juventus.

Five wins in a row to end the Serie A season - confidence will be high.

De Roon emotional after fan support

18:44 , Matt Verri

Really is a big blow for Atalanta to be without Marten de Roon tonight.

He has picked up an injury, with Atalanta fans responding by hanging up a banner of support outside his house after the news broke.

“I’m feeling a little better, the disappointment has passed a little,” De Roon said in Tuesday’s press conference. “The banner outside the house this morning made me emotional. In recent days I have received extraordinary, incredible affection.

“Some good things have come from this difficult moment for me, I have messages from everyone and this gave me enormous pleasure.”

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini said: “I'm really sorry for him, for everything he's done. It's sad that he can't play in this final. He's never been injured in recent years, his first injury came on the eve of this final.”

Leverkusen two wins away...

18:34 , Matt Verri

Bundesliga champions Leverkusen are on the cusp of greatness.

Xabi Alonso’s side cruised to the league title and are on a 51-match unbeaten run, having not tasted defeat in any competition this season. The ‘Invincible Treble’ is on.

Victory tonight will secure a second trophy, and leave their hopes of an entire season unbeaten resting on the German Cup final this weekend, against second-division side Kaiserslautern.

Atalanta team news

17:48 , Matt Verri

Atalanta have been hit by the absence of Marten De Roon for the Europa League final.

The Italian side will be without their captain after he came off during their Coppa Italia final loss to Juventus last week.

Defender Emil Holm is another doubt with the same calf issue preventing him from appearing in both legs of their semi-final clash against Marseille.

But the centre-back and ex-Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac (thigh) both featured in training ahead of the trip to Dublin.
