A Tidal Trails 'parkrun takeover' is set to take place in the North East over the weekend.

This event will be outside the Sand Dancer pub on Sea Road, South Shields, from 8.30am on Saturday, February 1.

Athletics legend Steve Cram, who is the founder of Tidal Trails, and former Team GB athlete Aly Dixon will be leading the event.

They will be volunteering or participating in the weekly 5k event and will be introducing the Tidal Trails concept, which is set to debut in August.

This will be introduced to the South Shields parkrunners before the 9am race.

The event will also be attended by Colin Burgin-Plews, known as 'Big Pink Dress', who is a charity fundraiser.

Representatives from Everyone Active, Colmans Seafood Temple, and South Tyneside Council will also be present.

The Tidal Trails team will be distributing special discounts to parkrunners and will be among the volunteers.

The parkrun start is next to the main site for Tidal Trails, a family running event which will be held on Saturday, August 17.

The event will see people running along the coastline of South Shields, Marsden, and Whitburn.

The event is described as a "celebration of the North East coastline" and "a bit of an adventure."

The routes will be "challenging," but will be "suitable for all levels of runners and walkers."
