Australia vs South Korea LIVE! Asian Cup match stream, latest score and goal updates today
South Korea remain on course for a first Asian Cup title since 1960, after Heung-min Son scored a marvellous free-kick winner in extra time that gave his side a 2-1 quarter-final win over Australia. In an evenly contested match that was a repeat of the 2015 final which Australia won in extra time, this time it was South Korea’s turn to taste victory in the 30 extra minutes. They will face first-time semi-finalists Jordan on Wednesday.
Australia took the lead just before the break when Craig Goodwin volleyed home superbly from Connor Metcalfe’s hoicked cross. South Korea have only made the Asian Cup once since 1988 and are one of the competition’s all-time biggest underachievers, but they came out firing in the second half and were the strongest team after that point. Australia would come to rue wasteful finishing late on when Son won a penalty after a poor tackle by Hibernian’s Lewis Miller. Hee-chan Hwang of Wolves stepped up to thunder South Korea into extra time.
Once they reached that stage, Jurgen Klinsmann’s side were even more dominant. They cashed that in for a quite stupendous winner when Miller fouled Hwang and Son stepped up to curl a magnificent free-kick over the wall and into the net. Soon after, it went from bad to worse for Australia as substitute Aiden O’Neill was shown a straight red card for a horrendous challenge on Hwang. South Korea should have wrapped the game up in the second half of extra time once Australia had committed bodies forward, but they held on to set up a semi-final against Jordan, in which they will be clear favourites to make next Saturday’s final.

15 minutes to go!
15:15 , Dom Smith
Just 15 minutes now until Australia and South Korea kick off at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.
Will Son's South Korea make it through to the last four, or will it be Australia who pile more Asian Cup misery on South Korea and claim that second semi-final spot?
A spot of revenge for South Korea perhaps?
15:02 , Dom Smith
It's a stat that still doesn't feel plausible, but it is genuinely the case that South Korea have not won the Asian Cup since lifting it in 1956 and again four years later in 1960.
They were beaten finalists in 1972, 1980, 1988 and in 2015, when they lost in extra time to Australia.
They'll be hoping to knock the Aussies out here in Doha, going one step further than last time out, when they went out in the last eight in 2019 to eventual winners Qatar.
Managers prepared for a tough battle
14:49 , Dom Smith
Both managers have been speaking this week about this heavyweight last-eight clash.
South Korea boss Jurgen Klinsmann said: "If you want to go through to the knockout phase of a big tournament, you have to be ready to suffer, you have to deal with pain.
"Now it gets down to the grinding phase," Klinsmann said. "Now it's the big stage, and I love this moment. I hope they enjoy that too."
His opposite number, Australia's Graham Arnold, said of Klinsmann's side: "We know their strengths and we'll deal with them in the best way we can."

They then drew 2-2 with Jordan and 3-3 with Malaysia to qualify second from Group E.
After a 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia in the round of 16, they won 4-2 via a shootout to set up their meeting with Australia — a repeat of the 2015 final.

Australia, granted, had an easier opponents in the round of 16 in the form of Indonesia, but they also made the most of that kind draw.
Ahead after just 12 minutes, they scored two late goals to produce a dominant 4-0 win that will have alerted all other quarter-finalists to Australia's threat in this Asian Cup.
