Australian all-rounder signs with Hampshire for first two months of 2025 season
AUSTRALIAN all-rounder Jack Edwards has signed with Hampshire for the first two months of the 2025 season, marking his first stint in county cricket.
The 24 year old will feature in the County Championship from April until the end of May, having previously impressed in limited-over cricket.
A talented right-handed batter and pace bowler, Edwards has amassed 548 runs and claimed 19 wickets in 51 matches in T20.
Edwards has already formed a connection with Hampshire through his time at Sydney Sixers, where he played alongside Hawks captain James Vince in the Big Bash League.
Excited about the opportunity, Edwards said: “I’m looking forward to getting stuck in with Hampshire for the first couple of months of the season.
"I’ve played alongside James Vince for the last few years and have gotten to know him pretty well, so it’s great to know I’ll be playing under the Rose and Crown.
"Watching from afar, the club has been really close to winning titles across formats in recent years, so hopefully, I can help the team go one step further in 2025.”
Edwards has been a standout performer in Australian domestic cricket, scoring 1,751 runs and taking 68 wickets in just 39 first-class matches.
This season, he has been in fine form for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield, scoring 386 runs at an average of 38.60 and taking 26 wickets - making him the state’s leading wicket-taker at an average of 21.96.
Hampshire’s director of cricket, Giles White added: “Jack is a genuine all-rounder and will strengthen the team across all disciplines. He’s shown this in recent performances.
"He took a match-winning 10 wickets against Western Australia, followed by a hundred and a fifty in the next match against Queensland. He was selected to captain Australia A and is also a fine slip fielder. He ticks all the boxes.”
Edwards currently captains New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield and recently led the Prime Minister’s XI against India ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
