Wicklow boss Oisin McConville believes that his side paid a price for being idle on the opening weekend as London scored a rare victory in Ruislip.

The Exiles bounced back from their crushing 18-point defeat to Wexford to score a 1-20 to 0-21 win at McGovern Park in what was Wicklow’s first League outing and only London’s second win in 20 games in the competition.

Wicklow now face Waterford next Saturday in the rearranged Division Four round one tie which fell victim to Storm Eowyn. Having only dropped down from Division Three last year, the margin for error in their promotion push is largely diminished.

“Disappointing result but like I have to say London were good,” McConville told the GAA Social podcast. “We probably just fell short.

“You’d know that they had a game under their belt, regardless of how poor they felt they were last week - they still had a game under their belt and we didn’t and you probably could see that they were more in tune with the new rules and stuff than we were so yeah, back to the drawing board and obviously because our game was cancelled last week we’re five weeks on the hoof now so we need to get a grip with it pretty quickly.

“Six days to recover from London and go at it again so yeah, wasn’t exactly the result we were looking for but, as I say, London were good today and fair play to them.”
