MORTON stopper Jack Baird was delighted to see an unwanted Cappielow record fall against Queen's Park - but has confessed he isn't surprised at the length of time it took to do so.

Ton came back from behind to beat Championship opposition for the first time in 539 days, cancelling out Zak Rudden's opener to take all three points against the Spiders at Hampden.

But Baird says the combative nature of the league makes it hard to turn ties around.

Ton are looking to close the gap on the top four to just six points, with two games in hand on the teams above them in the table.

He told the Tele: "It is a huge milestone for the group. But again, I'm not surprised about that kind of or the length of that stat.

"I probably repeat myself constantly, but if you score the first goal in this league, it's massive. It gives you something to hold on to.

"So, from our point of view, we did really well to turn it around from that position.

"I understand that, because teams are very good at getting into the lead in this league and then seeing it out. It's so much easier to defend and hold onto the lead than it is to try and get back from behind.

"It could have very much gone the other way. We could be going into the Partick game thinking we've not had a good result.

"So it makes it a lot easier for us in terms of keeping the momentum going."
