MORTON bosses have criticised fans who 'narrowly missed children' when they hurled pyrotechnics onto the pitch before the side’s clash with Partick Thistle at Firhill yesterday.

In a statement, the club expressed its disappointment with a ‘small number’ of supporters who threw the prohibited items and reminded fans that the use of such items at football matches is illegal.

A Morton spokesperson said the club will now be liaising with Partick Thistle and other parties to identify those responsible.

They said: “Greenock Morton would like to remind supporters that the use of pyrotechnics at football is illegal and can lead to police action.

“We are disappointed that a small number of fans utilised pyrotechnics at today’s match with Partick Thistle, narrowly missing young children that were on the pitch.

“This will mean the club being answerable to the authorities for the actions of a small number of people.

“The club will now liaise with Partick Thistle and the relevant parties to try and identify those responsible for utilising pyrotechnics and take the appropriate action which could lead to a football banning order.”
