Newcastle United remain one of eight Premier League clubs yet to make a new signing this winter transfer window.

However, they are in good company, all of the top four - if you exclude Wayne Hennessey re-signing for Nottingham Forest - have yet to announce any additions. The only impending incoming at Newcastle is Vakhtang Salia, who they completed a deal to sign in late October ahead of the player turning 18 at the end of August.

This winter's business thus far consists only of outgoings, with Alex Murphy, Charlie McArthur, Isaac Hayden and Travis Hernes all securing loans away from the club until the end of this season. However, ChronicleLive has taken a look at the latest transfer rumours.

Newcastle 'offered' Barcelona transfer

Eric Garcia is a player Barcelona have reportedly offered to clubs, including Newcastle. TBR Football's chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, told Geordie Boot Boys that intermediaries are doing the Catalan club's business amid links to Como and Girona, the latter loaning the former Manchester City defender last season.

"[Garcia] is probably one of around 50 players who have been offered to Newcastle this month," Bailey said. "But clubs that need a centre-back are going to be offered these players.

"I think Newcastle are aware of him from previous scouting missions. He's an interesting player. However, I've got no indication that Newcastle have even responded to being offered him."

Wilson replacement

The long-time scout Mick Brown believes Newcastle will push to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin should, as expected, the striker become a free agent this summer. Brown, who worked at West Ham United as recently as last season, has told Football Insider a deal would make sense for all parties.

"I think it's time for [Calvert-Lewin] to move on from Everton," Brown believes. "If he does become available on a free, Newcastle are going to be in that race because they haven't got a lot of depth in terms of quality strikers.

"He'll obviously be behind [Alexander] Isak in the pecking order, but he's a better option than [Callum] Wilson – and I think we've said before it looks like he's going to be leaving. If they were to look elsewhere for that kind of option, what strikers are available with his experience and quality who aren't going to cost too much?

"Obviously the fact it's a free transfer would be a boost for Newcastle in terms of their finances. That's the main thing with Newcastle; they're in a difficult situation in terms of spending money.

"So when a striker like that becomes available on a free, I expect they'll be all over it. That looks like one they'll be pushing to get over the line at the end of the season because it makes sense for all parties."
