Barrow AFC sacked manager Stephen Clemence straight after their 2-0 defeat against Swindon Town at The Nigel Eady County Ground.

Having replaced Pete Wild in the summer after The Bluebirds narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season, the former Gillingham manager is now out of work once again.

When Swindon visited the SO Legal Stadium in September Barrow sat third in League Two but they have struggled since then, winning just two of their last 18 matches and now are only above Town on goal difference.

Nnamdi Ofoborh and Harry Smith’s goals to give Swindon a valuable win at The Nigel Eady County Ground were enough to convince Barrow to move on from Clemence and also assistant manager Robbie Stockdale.

Chairman Paul Hornby said in a statement: “Stephen has always conducted himself with great dignity and professionalism but unfortunately our recent extended run of poor results has led us to the decision that it was time to make a change.”

Clemence said after his final game: “I know what situation the club’s in and there’s only the players, the staff and the help of the supporters that can get us out of this.

“We know we’re not in a great place, we’re not stupid.”
