Bath Rugby book Premiership Rugby Cup quarter-final spot with routine win over Ampthill
Bath Rugby secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Premiership Rugby Cup with a comfortable win 50-7 against Championship side Ampthill at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.
The victory gives Bath the luxury of travelling to Bristol Bears next weekend in the final pool stage with qualification already wrapped up, although seedings in the quarter-finals and subsequently who will play at home is still up for grabs.
The next generation of Blue, Black and White ran in eight tries on their home turf, touching down through Louie Hennessey, Arthur Green (2), Jasper Spandler (2), Ewan Richards and Tyler Offiah. Orlando Bailey added six points from three conversions and Ciaran Donoghue added another four points off the tee after taking over the kicking duties.

Wilson Ijeh added a try for the visitors, converted by Josh Barton, but that was all the visiting fans had to cheer other than some stubborn defensive resolve to deny Bath more points.
Bath opened the scoring after just 90 seconds as Bailey broke down the blindside and fed Hennessey who ran through a weak arm tackle before racing down the wing and around under the posts.
The tries kept coming, with Cam Redpath - on his return from a hamstring injury - delaying a pass to suck in the defence and put Green through a gap and the number eight showed his wheels and athleticism, racing in from 40m out with a little step allowing him to brush off the attempted tackle of final defender Ijeh.
A driving mal then delivered hooker Spandler over the whitewash before skipper Richards secured the attacking bonus point, picking up a loose pass, handing off an attempted tackle and running in from 35m out.
But the hosts then went off the ball and Ampthill took advantage, patiently sucking in the Bath defence to create a mismatch for winger Ijeh to use his footwork to bamboozle the forwards in front of him and finish with a swan dive.
Bath's pack delivered another three tries in the second half, with Spandler and Green touching down from close range drives, the first from a driving maul.
Replacement winger Offiah then lit up the grey skies with a scorching individual effort, taking an inside pass 40m out and trusting his pace to round the final defender to touch down.
Replacement loose head prop Kirk, who has only just returned from a serious ACL injury, then capped the display with a tlooseheadry from short-range after more fine work from Offiah put the hosts in position to strike.
