Bath Rugby boss Johann van Graan provides injury latest on Will Muir and Guy Pepper
Bath Rugby look set to be without star winger Will Muir ahead of two vital weekends in the Investec Champions Cup.
The Blue, Black and White must beat French side Clermont at the Recreation Ground next weekend to have any hope of reaching the last 16 knockout round, with a daunting trip to the Aviva Stadium to face Leinster the following week in their final pool stage game in Europe.
But Muir, who looked in with a shout of making his England bow in the Six Nations with doubts over the fitness of Exeter Chiefs dynamo Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, limped off of the field at Franklin’s Gardens with a hamstring injury after pulling up just after hitting top gear chasing his own kick.

With Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan opting for 7-1 split on his replacements bench, that meant rapid flanker Josh Bayliss played 50 minutes as a makeshift winger in Sunday’s 35-34 defeat. By the time Muir had limped off, flanker Guy Pepper had already made way after pulling up following a full blooded kick chase.
Talking to SomersetLive, van Graan said: “Guy and Will both injured their hamstrings. It is a soft tissue injury in-game playing at high speed. They will both go for scans but the fact they were both removed immediately by our medical team suggests they were not ones you can come back from in a week.
"Both have been playing fantastic rugby. I thought Will last week was excellent [scoring a hat-trick on his way to being named player of the match in the 68-10 win over Saracens] and Guy has been phenomenal since he joined us this summer.
“I thought Josh Bayliss was excellent on the wing. His aerial skills, his chasing. We don’t see naming a 7-1 split on the bench as a risk, it is a calculated decision.”
