Battery Park junior parkrun in memory of Andy - 'the Man in the Yellow Hat'
THE Battery Park junior parkrun held its 167th event in memory of a beloved volunteer.
Dedicated to the late Andy, affectionately known as "the Man in the Yellow Hat," participants donned yellow to pay tribute.
Andy, a cherished volunteer, was known for his spirited high-fives at the corner, and is deeply missed.
The cold yet dry Sunday morning saw 31 junior parkrunners and 14 volunteers take to the course.
First-timers Olivia, Millie, and Arabelle joined the event while Emily set a new personal best of 14:11.
Lauryn was the first finisher in 8:36, followed by Faye in 9:07 and Cadhlea in 9:19.
The Fulton twins, Jamie and Sam, celebrated their 100th junior parkrun, earning their grey wristbands.
Their gran, Rhona, marked the occasion by volunteering for the 25th time.
Among the boys, Mason was the first to cross the line in 9:40, closely followed by Rudi in 9:41 and Sam in 9:49.
The volunteers who helped out were Catriona Anderson, Aidan Canning, Lesley Dick, Lynne Fulton, James Gavin, Rhona Hair, Tracey Howe, Erin McEleny, Irene McIntosh, Marjorie Morrison, Rachel Neil, Judy Ormond, Kirsty Ormond, Susanne Stetz.
They also urged more people to volunteer for the rest of January, inviting interested parties to email batteryparkjuniors@parkrun.com to help out.
