Battling Hull City seal huge away win at Millwall as new signings bring fresh hope
Hull City notched up a second straight-away win to claim a precious 1-0 victory at Millwall to make it three games unbeaten courtesy of a second-half Jake Cooper own goal to kick off a crucial three-game week in style.
City took the lead just before the hour when Regan Slater's run and cross down the right forced Jake Cooper to turn into his own net at the near post, right in front of a bumper away following from East Yorkshire behind the goal.
The Tigers, who won 1-0 at Blackburn Rovers in their last away outing, showed all the grit and determination they'll need in their battle to stay in the division to earn a first win at The Den since 2013, and in truth, it could, and should have been more.

Selles made two changes to his side from the last Championship outing against Leeds United two weeks ago, and one change in particular was a big one. That came in goal, with Carl Rushworth handed a first league start of the season after making his debut in the FA Cup on Sunday, with Ivor Pandur dropped to the bench for the first time. Fin Burns was also handed a first league start since September, coming in for Matty Jacob, who was not deemed fit enough to be involved from the start but was on the bench.
Amid a growing feeling that Ryan Giles will leave the club for Middlesbrough, he was left out of the squad altogether while all three new signings, Matt Crooks, Joe Gelhardt and Nordin Amrabat, named on the bench. For Millwall, former City striker Aaron Connolly was named on the bench, two days after signing from Sunderland.
A couple of early free-kicks saw Millwall make good territory, and from the second of those, Japhet Tanganga got his head to a Joe Bryan teasing ball into the box, which Rushworth had to dive low to save well from six yards out.
City were looking a threat and could have taken the lead after 10 minutes when a sweeping move from left to right saw Pedro feed Kamara, but goalkeeper Lukas Jensen was out quickly to block, that chance coming shortly after another bright move saw Coyle's tame effort on his left peg saved by the stopper.
Kamara had another decent opening which was blocked, from which the Lions broke and after some last-ditch defending, former Tiger Honeyman blazed over from the edge of the box after Watmore's run through was blocked by a combination of Jones and McLoughlin.
Moments later, Coyle went in for a heavy challenge - winning the ball - but came off worse and had to come off after just 23 minutes to be replaced by Cody Drameh. seconds after his arrival, the defender put a searching ball into the Lions box, which had no takers. In what turned out to be a scrappy first period, City was not without its moments going forward; it just lacked that bit of quality when it mattered, whether that was a shot or a final pass.
A scrappy second half was lit up by the amber smoke bombs from the away end when Slater's run down the right and into the box saw Jake Cooper turn into his own net under pressure from Pedro at the near post. A precious away lead for the Tigers in front of a big away following in South London.
Two minutes after the hour, Selles sent on Joe Gelhardt for his debut and he was almost the provider for Slater who struck wide from the edge of the box when he really should have done better. Aaron Connolly was Millwall's first change of the afternoon, coming on for his debut.
Another change for the hosts followed with Watmore replaced by Macauley Langstaff with just over 15 minutes remaining at what was becoming an increasingly annoyed Den, well, three sides of it anyway. City were pushing for a second with Pedro guiding over from the edge of the box after Slater's lay-off. Ra'ees Bangura-Williams and Billy Mitchell then came on for Ivanovic and Saville, with the locals calling boss Alex Neil clueless for those changes.
With Millwall pressing in the final 10 minutes, Selles sent on Crooks and Amrabat for their respective debuts, though Crooks couldn't get his ring off, which delayed that, much to the anger of the locals. City withstood heavy late pressure and six minutes of added time, but Rushworth was barely tested and the Tigers were able to celebrate a huge win on the road.
