Max Eberl has revealed whether Bayern Munich plan to sign Christopher Nkunku before the January transfer window slams shut. The 27-year-old forward has been heavily linked with a move to the Allianz Arena this month after growing frustrated with his role in the Chelsea squad.

Earlier this month, football.london reported that the German giants were interested in signing Nkunku, who has made just three starts in the Premier League this season. Meanwhile, Tel had emerged as a target for Chelsea as Enzo Maresca looked to bolster his frontline.

football.london understands that the West Londoners made contact with Bayern over a potential deal for the 19-year-old forward. Chelsea, who have long admired Tel, asked the Bavarians if the Frenchman would be available to sign following an initial enquiry last summer.

The Blues did not, however, discuss or offer Nkunku as part of a swap deal, football.london understands. In an interview with German outlet SPOX on Thursday, the Bayern 'board member for sport' was quizzed on the club's interest in the Chelsea forward and Tel's future.

"We're extremely happy with our squad," said Eberl amid links with Nkunku, keeping his cards close to his chest. Then, on the teenage striker, he revealed that the club plan to help him find his feet again after a rocky start to the season.

Tel, whose contract in Munich won't expire until June 2029, has featured just 13 times under Vincent Kompany this term, averaging half an hour an appearance. The Bayern chief said: "You can see that he's not playing with freedom at the moment.

"It's also up to us to give him the time to find his freedom again. Then we have a squad that is sufficiently equipped in terms of quantity and quality. We have no interest in doing anything [in January]."

With Nkunku struggling to force himself into the Chelsea starting lineup, Maresca was recently asked whether the former RB Leipzig star has expressed a desire to leave the club this month. The Blues boss replied: "No, no. We didn't speak about nothing with Christopher.

"But the last time I said that [he will listen if a player tells him they want to leave], it's because in the end, we want all the players, as we said before, to try to be happy; knowing the ones that are not playing, they are not happy. It is normal."

Maresca added: "I think also in this case, Christopher also wants to play and he wants to be happy. He's 27, probably the oldest one. No matter the age, the players want to play and if they do not play, then they are not happy."
