Brisbane Heat have completed the signing of England batsman Ben Duckett for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League.

This will be the Kent-born England player’s first stint in Australia’s T20 franchise tournament after playing 129 T20 matches at the domestic level and he has only one international T20I match he played against Pakistan in 2019.

Looking forward to getting out to Brisbane: Ben Duckett

Duckett could be the replacement for England teammate Tom Banton, who pulled himself out of BBL 20/21 season in the middle of the season. Duckett said he is looking forward to playing with Brisbane Heat at the Gabba and Gold Coast.

“I’m looking forward to getting out to Brisbane and hopefully helping the team have a great season,” Duckett said in a press release on Tuesday, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

“I know friends and colleagues have told me what a great team environment it is and how passionate the fans are at the Gabba and on the Gold Coast, and I can’t wait to experience this all for myself.”

Ben Duckett fits the bill for the type of player we were looking to inject into the Brisbane Heat squad: Wade Seccombe

Duckett has scored 3057 runs from 122 innings at the strike rate of 135.56 and also has 19 half-centuries next to his name. Brisbane Heat head coach Wade Seccombe said they were looking for a player who can bat at top of the order and are excited to welcome him.

“Ben fits the bill for the type of player we were looking to inject into the Heat squad this season and we’re excited to welcome him to Brisbane. He brings something a little different to what we have had in the squad, being a left-hander who also bats in the top order,” Seccombe said.

“He has played a lot of first class, List A cricket and T20 in England despite being a relatively young man and enjoyed a significant deal of success along the way. We’re looking forward to further tapping into that potential to give us an important addition to our line-up,” he added.

Brisbane Heat have won the BBL title in the 2012/13 season under the captaincy of Chris Hartley.
