Becky Ives will return to screens across the UK once again this evening as she steps in to provide coverage of Tyson Fury's blockbuster rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

The TNT Sports presenter will be joined by Carl Frampton, Lennox Lewis and Steve Bunce as she brings fight fans all of the build-up leading up to the main event of the evening from the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia, having previously filled in for Laura Woods to cover the 'Gypsy King's' initial match with Usyk back in May.

Fan favourite Woods was forced to pull out of her media duties on the night after suffering a freak accident which left her in need of surgery. The 37-year-old at the time took to Instagram to inform her followers of her absence from television screens, citing how she was recovering from serious face and arm injuries caused by a shattered glass lampshade while on holiday in Majorca.

Ives delivered flawlessly as Usyk handed Fury the first professional loss of his career via split-decision after 12 close-fought rounds on May 18, etching her names into the annals of sporting history as the undefeated Ukrainian became the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lewis' feat in November 1999.

And as the two men run it back at the very same arena in monumental fashion this evening, Ives will also return to the role in which she has previously excelled in. But what do we know about Ives? Here, Wales Online breaks down an awkward situation in stepping into Woods' limelight, the presenter's links to Rangers FC, and an axed radio show she was once a part of.

A friendship with Laura Woods

Ives and fellow presenter Woods – who is currently pregnant with her first child – have a healthy relationship with one another, with the two being snapped together on social media and frequently sharing positive messages with one another. Ives even previously took to Instagram to share a snap of herself and Woods beaming as they posed for a quick photograph in Paris, surrounded by stunning lights.

Woods has also taken to social media in the past to share praise for her fellow presenter, commenting on a photo of Ives' new hair-do from December 2022 with: "BECKY! I love it," while sharing a string of heart-eyes emojis under a post pertaining to Ives at the Arnold Clark Cup last February.

And it appears as though Ives wasn't too keen on treading on Woods' toes back in May when she replaced the face of TNT as the main presenter for Fury vs Usyk in May either. Reflecting on the event, Ives took to Instagram to share a series of snaps from the night writing: "The Ring of Fire Fury vs Usyk.

"The undisputed World Heavyweight Championship fight, live, on @tntsportsboxing. Last night was just another level; posting these to remember it was real. Thank you so much for all the love, messages & support, from the @tntsports and @tntsportsboxing team, to my friends & on here....I appreciate it more than you will ever know! To @laurawoodsy It was an honour to keep your seat warm doll; heal quickly!"

But it's undeniably an awkward situation for the two, given the size of the occasion and how it could be considered a peak moment for either of their careers in sports presenting. Woods has continued working this year, most notably covering a lot of key Champions League action for TNT Sports, and she'll be gutted to have missed out on both of Fury's showdowns with Usyk. The only thing that looks for sure, though, is Woods won't have made it awkward for Ives behind the scenes.

It remains to be seen if we get a trilogy fight down the line next year whether Ives will secure the gig for a third time – even after Woods was all set to host the first bout.

Links with Rangers and other broadcasting work

An accomplished presenter, Ives has worked with a number of different companies since starting a career in the world of sports journalism. Many football fans will recognise her from stints with Premier League Today, ITV and most-recently, TNT Sports – however, the self-proclaimed "professional talker" has an incredible resume spanning 11 years also chipping in for the likes of UEFA and Discovery Sports.

Lovers of the Scottish game will also have seen Ives hosting live SPFL games for Rangers FC on RTV – even going as far as repping a Rangers Christmas jumper last December.

An axed radio show

Prior to her venture into the world of sports journalism, Ives spent four years with Kent's Heart Radio alongside James Heming, their in-studio chemistry a treat for listeners on the south-east coast. Ives joined the show in December 2014 as a co-host to Heming, but in February 2019, it was announced that Heart would be pulled from the airwaves.

Fans of the show were devastated, even launching a petition to have it remain – but as of May 24, 2019, the show ceased to exist. Ives, of course has gone on to enjoy a highly-successful career in the sporting world, having picked up work with BT Sport at the time while also working with Premier League Productions to present live top-flight action to those overseas.

Heming, meanwhile, remained in Kent to launch a YouTube series with Ant Payne entitled City of Two Tales in which they traversed European tourist hotspots like Barcelona and Paris. It appears as though he has also worked with SFM Radio and Made In Kent Radio in the years since leaving Heart.
