Ben Doak's exciting future mapped after Liverpool's crucial Middlesbrough decision
Former Scotland international Steven Caldwell believes Ben Doak can return to Liverpool and compete for a place in the team in the future - and tips the wide man to be a star of the Scotland team for many years to come.
Doak is enjoying an impressive loan spell at Middlesbrough this season. And in a huge boost to Michael Carrick’s promotion hopes, Liverpool have decided to keep the 19-year-old at Boro until the end of the season.
It comes after a month in which a number of Premier League clubs registered their interest in Doak, with Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace even having concrete offers rejected.

But Liverpool turned down the offers and set a £30 million asking price which ultimately put off clubs as Doak remains at Boro now until the end of the season. With the deadline in which Liverpool can recall this month having now passed, not even late interest from elsewhere could change that.
Speaking about Doak and his future prospects after a positive season at Boro so far, Caldwell told RG: “It's pretty high [his ceiling]. It’s going to be tough to break through at Liverpool, but he’s doing excellently at Middlesbrough and will certainly be fancied by a lot of Premier League teams if Liverpool decide to let him go.
“I think Liverpool have high hopes and will give him a chance in the first team after this loan spell. It’s been a great season, and he's establishing himself in the Scotland side. He's different, he's quick, he's exciting. He's a player that we don't necessarily have in the Scotland squad. He’s going to keep getting better and working hard… I’m super excited to see where his career takes him.”
