Benfica make Tomas Araujo 'decision' amid Manchester United transfer interest
Benfica are hoping to renew defender Tomas Araujo's contract amid interest from Manchester United, according to reports this week.
The Reds were linked with the 22-year-old last month, with reports indicating he fits the profile new manager Ruben Amorim is looking for. Araujo is a product of Benfica's academy, and has previously been linked with the likes of Crystal Palace and Paris Saint-Germain, but a move away from Portugal is yet to materialise.
A fresh report from outlet Maisfutebol claims Benfica are now pressing ahead with the renewal of the youngster's contract, which is currently set to expire in the summer of 2028. The article suggests Araujo's release clause could also be increased to a staggering €100m.

Araujo has made 15 appearances for Benfica across all competitions so far this season and registered one assist. His currently side are currently two points behind Amorim's former club, Sporting, and have a game in hand over their rivals.
United heavily bolstered their defensive ranks over the summer with the arrivals of Leny Yoro, who made his first start for United in the defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and both Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. However, Amorim will likely want to put his own stamp on the team he inherited from Erik ten Hag in the upcoming transfer windows.
The Reds sit 13th in the Premier League standings following Saturday's defeat. They have won just five of their 15 games so far, but their record under Amorim so far stands at two wins from five games across all competitions.
