Arsenal have, seemingly, been handed a boost in their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for Sesko in recent months with the rumours intensifying ever since the January transfer window opened. Arsenal were credited with an interest in signing Sesko last summer as they looked to bring a new striker to the Emirates Stadium.

Sesko was reported to have a €65million (£55million) release clause in his contract at Leipzig - until he signed a new deal with the Bundesliga that, initially, ended interest from rival clubs, including Arsenal. football.london understands that Arsenal's interest in Sesko is genuine, although the Gunners are not looking to sign the Slovenia international on loan during the January window.

Amid that speculation, it seems that Arsenal have been handed a timely 'boost' in the race to sign Sesko. A report from talkSPORT has claimed that the Gunners are the likely destination for the striker if he decides to leave Leipzig.

The report claims that Sesko has 'chosen' to join Arsenal after hearing about their project last summer. As a result, the Gunners have now moved ahead of both Chelsea and Manchester United in that chase to sign the 21-year-old, although a move will not happen in January and would have to wait until the summer.

Leipzig reportedly value Sesko at around £70million, but he's not the only striker credited as a potential target for Arsenal. Newcastle's Alexander Isak, Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres and Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen have also been linked with the Gunners before and since the New Year.

Mikel Arteta has recently spoke about Arsenal's need to sign a new striker. A move for Sesko is, seemingly, not on the cards this month, but Arteta admitted that the Gunners are looking at the market for options.

"My opinion is clear, we lost two very important players in Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus so we lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the front-line, it's clear," Arteta told reporters on Friday.

"If we can get the right player, that's what we're actively looking at," Arteta added. "Any player? No. Someone that makes us better and has an impact on the team.

"We need some help, we're very short already, but the team is coping. We have to do what's right for the club."
