Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal January transfer truth now clear as Mikel Arteta receives loan update
Arsenal may be forced to delay their transfer pursuit of Benjamin Sesko until the summer. The Gunners have been strongly linked to the RB Leipzig striker over the last eight months, though any deal looks unlikely in the January transfer window.
Mikel Arteta and Co. certainly look set to try, however, with the need for attacking reinforcement very clear by his injury list and the gulf of missed chances, despite still winning the game against Tottenham. It seems as though Arteta is also acutely aware of this, judging by his post-match transfer verdict.
"Yes, for sure, because we lost two big players - Bukayo could be out for three months, and Gabby is going to be out for a long time too," he told TNT Sport when asked about signing a new forward. "We are going to try for sure. We are actively looking.

"We have lost two very important players; we have 14 players in the squad, and we play every three days. So, we will try, and let's see what we can get." Sesko is certainly one option, with some reports even claiming initial talks over a loan have already began.
However, some clarification has since been provided by his agent Elvis Basanovic on the short-term future of his client. Speaking via journalist Fabrizio Romano, he said: “I don’t know where this story has come from but I have never talked with Arsenal about a loan move for Sesko.
“Sesko is not a player for loans and this was never a topic with Arsenal or any other club. If you ask me if Sesko will move in January, I can only say Sesko is a RB Leipzig player and fully focused on that."
When asked about the interest in general from clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, Basanovic replied: “RB Leipzig are the right people to ask these kinds of questions." Given such a precise update, a mid-season switch to north London for Sesko can seemingly be ruled out.
However, things can change very quickly in football, especially during the transfer window, and because of that, until the winter window closes at 11pm on Monday, February 3, 2025, nothing can be ruled out.
