Benjamin Sesko scored yet again for RB Leipzig on Wednesday night as the German side beat Sporting CP 2-1 in the Champions League.

It was the 21-year-old's 14th goal in 26 games this season with the forward making no mistake from close range after good work by David Raum down the left. The strike only adds further fuel to the rumours linking the Slovenian with a move to Arsenal.

football.london understands Arsenal’s interest in Sesko has persisted from the summer when a deal was not possible before the Euros. Arsenal chiefs have continued to monitor the Leipzig star closely and any permanent deal is likely to cost a fair bit of money given his importance to the Leipzig team.

After scoring on Wednesday night, Sesko was named Player of the Match and took to Instagram to show a picture of himself holding the POTM trophy. The forward said in the post: "UCL nights are always special. We go together!"

Arsenal's need for a striker has grown in recent weeks due to the injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. football.london understands Arsenal have wanted to improve their forward line since the summer although it remains to be seen if a deal for Sesko can be struck between now ands the February 3 deadline.

Mikel Arteta appears keen to sign reinforcements but was tight-lipped when asked about striker additions last week. Speaking to the media, the Spaniard said: "At the moment we don’t have them [reinforcements].

"We are trying, as I said, actively to find the best possible solution. We will have to wait and see what we can do."

When asked what profile of forward the club are looking at, Arteta said: "Obviously, that is not something I’m going to discuss here. We have lost two massive players for us in the front line and we need some support there."
