Manchester United have less than two weeks to complete their transfer business before the end of the January window. Ruben Amorim's men have endured a miserable season and it was thought that United could - possibly - dip into the market to give their squad a much-needed boost.

However, United have not signed one single first-team player this month. They have allowed three Academy stars to go out on loan, but that is it. Amorim and co have been slow-burners in the market - so far - but there is chance that bodies could arrive before the February 3 deadline.

The same can be said for players exiting Old Trafford - as several out-of-favour stars continue to be linked with moves away. United are willing to listen to offers for every player, including Academy graduates, this month, as they bid to balance the books and meet Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR).

With that in mind, The Manchester Evening News have taken a closer look at what a dream end to the January window could look like for Amorim, as he tries to improve his underperforming squad;

Priority position

It does feel like United are desperate to sign a left-back before the end of the window. And Lecce's Patrick Dorgu is someone that has been placed on United's radar. The 20-year-old has scored three times, and added one assist, in 20 Serie A matches this season - attracting attention from the likes of United.

Lecce want around £33.8million for Dorgu's services and that does seem to be a no brainer. Yes, he's not proven in the Premier League, and that could be a concern, but it's a risk worth taking. He has talent in abundance and could slot straight into Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system at left-wing back. Would be an astute addition.

Elephant in the room

Marcus Rashford's future has come under debate over recent weeks after he was left out of the United squad to face Manchester City on December 15. He has not played for United since then and it's clear that his future does lie away from United and the club should attempt to cash-in on the 27-year-old forward.

If United can get £40million for the England ace that would represent excellent business. It would be a shame for Rashford's United career to end his way, but it's better for both parties to SELL, rather than loan. That way, United can reinvest some of that "pure profit" recouped from an Academy graduate on the squad.

Garnacho's future

Alejandro Garnacho is another one that has been linked with a switch this month. However, Amorim should keep hold of the 20-year-old and wait until the summer. If Rashford and Antony, who is closing in on a loan move to Real Betis, are leaving United, selling Garnacho would leave them VERY short in wide areas.

Garnacho, subject to interest from Napoli and Chelsea, has struggled at the start of Amorim's tenure, but he can still provide a bright spark when required. Get him back up to full speed and give him a consistent run in the side and then the United fans are likely to see the best of the Argentina international, once again.

A new striker

It's clear that United are lacking a proven goal-scorer at the top end of the pitch. While Rasmus Hojlund improved during his debut season at United, he has struggled this time around - while Joshua Zirkzee has not hit the ground running since his £36.5million summer move from Bologna.

I would break the bank to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. Yes, it might take around £65million to get the Slovenian international, 21, but he would be worth every penny. He has 14 goals in 26 matches for RB Leipzig this season and would strengthen United's front-line and add an extra ounce of quality.

Last pieces of business

There are a couple of other players in the United squad that I would also offload. The most notable one would be Casemiro to the Saudi Pro League for £15million. That would represent a major loss compared the £60million that they paid Real Madrid two-and-a-half years ago, but United need to cut their losses now.

Should that deal go through, a new midfielder would be needed. With Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo both establishing themselves as Amorim's first-choice midfield pairing, I would look at bringing in a young talent - and develop them. Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney is the one that should be targeted.
