Elvis Basanovic has revealed whether or not his client Benjamin Sesko plans to leave RB Leipzig this month. The 21-year-old striker was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window before deciding to sign a new contract at Red Bull Arena.

Sesko, who sees his deal expire in June 2029, has featured 17 times in the Bundesliga this season, scoring eight goals and providing two assists. Playing a key role in Marco Rose's side, the Slovenia international has fired RB Leipzig to fourth in the table.

His impressive performances in the German top flight have continued to attract interest from numerous big clubs in Europe, including Arsenal. In fact, football.london understands that the Gunners wanted to sign Sesko, but a deal never reached an advanced stage as the Slovenian international looked to resolve his future before Euro 2024.

Arsenal couldn't commit, with Eddie Nketiah still at the club and his future unknown. Despite this, football.london understands that the north Londoners have continued to monitor Sesko and they remain interested in securing his signature.

It's said that the striker could leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season, with a 'gentleman’s agreement' in place. Speaking recently on Slovenian TV channel Arena Sport, Sesko's agent was asked if his client has what it takes to play for Arsenal.

Basanovic said: "I think you should ask Mr. Arteta about that. But I think Sesko could suit many clubs because he has different football skills. He can play alone in attack, with two strikers, a little further back, he has height, speed, technical speed."

When pushed on whether Arsenal had made enquiries, Sesko's agent added: "I can't answer that question for you."

Basanovic explained: "Benjamin Sesko is really shining, I think this is a phase of development. I think we have already shown in the past that we are sticking to the development path, that we are not looking at current form.

"Our decision regarding the next step, the transfer, has never and will not stem from current form, but from who can offer Sesko the best platform for his development. We can see that our decision was correct, six months later he is already a better striker than he was last season.

"What he lacks is experience. We must not forget that he is only 21 years old, so we did not want him to go to the Premier League in the summer. There were concrete options, but we consciously decided to stay in the Bundesliga to give him time to progress and develop into a better striker."

When asked how much it would take for RB Leipzig to consider selling Sesko, Basanovic said: "I don't think Leipzig would be satisfied with any compensation at the moment, Leipzig does not want to sell Benjamin Sesko because they really value him immensely."

Speaking to reporters ahead of Arsenal's clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Arteta claimed he has a 'very clear idea' of who he wants to sign this month. The Spaniard said: "We know who we want to sign.

"We have very clear ideas of the players that we want, yes. It was before Gabriel Jesus' injury and it was with Gabi injured right now and we have to wait and see how things develop."

Then, after the North London Derby, Arteta confirmed: "For sure we are going to try on the market and we want to reinforce attack. We've lost two big players, Bukayo [Saka] for up for three months and Gabriel Jesus will be out for a long time."
