Bernardo Silva lavishes praise on Manchester City youngster Phil Foden before insisting match-winner was man of match

Bernardo Silva hailed Phil Foden after his match-winning goal and insisted the youngster should be man of the match.

The Portuguese international was handed the individual award after an impressing showing as Manchester City exacted revenge on Tottenham by beating them 1-0.

Foden’s early header was the difference, but speaking to broadcaster Sky Sports, Bernardo left viewers in no doubt as to who he believed should have received the award.

He ended the interviewing by insisting it should be Foden’s and congratulating the boyhood City fan.

And Bernardo was equally straight about what Pep Guardiola’s men need to do to lift the Premier League title again.

The 24-year-old told Sky Sports: “We knew after that game two nights ago against Tottenham, we wanted to give a response, especially with our fans.

“We wanted to keep the race for the Premier League title alive. It was very difficult, we didn’t have a lot of time to rest, and it was really warm outside.

“It was a great win, great three points. The next one is against Manchester United, it is a very tough game.

“Unless I’m mistaken there are four more to go, we need four wins.”

Foden’s fifth-minute header earned the hosts the full spoils after Sergio Aguero’s knockdown from Bernardo’s delightfully incisive pass.

And the youngster, who scored his first Premier League goal for the club, insisted he idolises all of his team-mates.

Like his counterpart, he heaped praise upon Bernardo.

“Kun (Aguero) did great, luckily I was there on the line to tap it in,” the England youngster said.

“I’m just happy to help them today. I try and get in the box as much as I can, that’s where you score the goals. I try to be an attacking midfielder and today it paid off.

“Every player I play with in this team I look up to. Especially this guy today, he didn’t stop running.

“When you’ve got this guy in your team, it’s almost impossible to beat us.”
