'That would be best' - Jose Mourinho given clear next job advice amid Chelsea return links

Jose Mourinho looks on from the stands during the Premier League match between Fulham FC and Liverpool FC at Craven Cottage on April 21, 2024 in London, England.

Former defender William Gallas has revealed what Premier League club Jose Mourinho should join. The ex-Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham boss was sacked from his position at AS Roma back in January following a run of poor results.

Amid significant pressure on Mauricio Pochettino's job at Stamford Bridge, and given the love affair between Chelsea and Mourinho, return links understandably emerged. In March, two months on from his sacking, Mourinho was quizzed on his plans for the future with it very clear he wanted to return imminently.

"I'm not in rest mode," he revealed to beIN Sports. "I want to work. I just don't want to make the wrong decision. I have to wait for the right one and the one that motivates me. If I could work tomorrow, I would work tomorrow."

Speaking to Sky Sports, he added: "I hope [to be back managing soon]. Roma was great to get to two European finals in two years and that's hard. But now I have to wait for the right opportunity. I want to work tomorrow if possible, but I don't want to make the wrong decision."

Since then, pressure on Pochettino has somewhat decreased with a number of positive results arriving, although an FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City along with dropped points against Sheffield United and Burnley have clouded over the fact the Blues have lost just once at home since October.

Despite that run of form, talk of Mourinho being back in the Premier League one day remains, with Gallas believing the Chelsea job is still the best fit for him.

Speaking to Gambling Zone, Gallas said: "I really hope that there is an opportunity for Jose Mourinho to come back and manage another big club in the Premier League next season. The Premier League is about to lose Jurgen Klopp. Next season, the only big, big managers in the league will be Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta, and Mikel hasn’t won the league yet.

"I think everyone would be excited by the prospect of seeing Mourinho pitting his wits against Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta – something would happen. There would be fireworks.

"Liverpool isn’t an opportunity for him. They are looking at another candidate and I think it would be impossible for Mourinho to manage there. I actually think the best club for him would be to come back to Chelsea. That would be the best possible option for Mourinho."
