Gethin Jones knows that Wanderers’ trip to Wycombe will be tough - but believes it can be the perfect opportunity to bounce back from their pain against Wigan.

The Chairboys are on an impressive run in the league, having gone 17 games unbeaten since their last defeat against Birmingham in August.

Matt Bloomfield’s side sit a point above the Blues at the top of the table, although they have played an extra game at this stage.

“I have been here four-and-a-half years and every time we have had a big setback like this, we have come bouncing back, fighting,” said Jones.

“Obviously, what better occasion than playing the league leaders away on Friday to put it right!

"It is the best game to have now. Everyone will expect them to beat us but we need to roll our sleeves up," he added.

The Whites only managed three shots on target against the Latics and it took until the second half to carve out their first clear-cut chance.

When asked if they need to be braver on the ball, Jones replied: “We all need to be braver. We know coming to Bolton, it is a massive club and massive expectation.

“We know what is expected of us as players, every single day in training and in games. We just need to be brave and the only way is by trying things.

“If you are not trying, you won’t know if you can succeed at doing those things. As individuals, we all need to be braver and work harder.”

Wanderers have a good record when scoring first this season, but a slow start against Wigan left Ian Evatt’s men chasing the game.

Jones accepted the criticism from Saturday’s defeat and is determined to start strongly at Adams Park.

However, the defender insists that Bolton must stay calm and stick to the plan when things aren’t going their way on the pitch.

“The way we start games is obviously vitally important at the moment,” he said. “In recent weeks, we had started really well.

“But even when we do disappointing things at the start of games, we need to know the work we have been doing as players and don’t just scrap it and play off the cuff.

“We are all really disappointed with the way we started, we all thoroughly accept the criticism we are taking and how the environment was in the stadium. It wasn’t acceptable at all how we played.”
