BIG-hearted bowlers from across Inverclyde took part in a charity tournament to raise vital funds for Ardgowan Hospice.

Clubs from the Greenock & District Bowling Association came together for the 'wapenshaw' competition, raising a total of £1,400.

Association president Scott Griffin, of Lady Alice Bowling Club, visited Ardgowan Hospice to hand over the cheque.

He said: "It is so important to us to continue raising funds for the Ardgowan Hospice.

"The 'wapenshaw' is always a great day and it brings all the clubs together. It is something that most of the clubs take part in."

The annual event has raised thousands of pounds over the years for the local charity, which depends on donations to keep providing vital care for those with life limiting illness.

Around 50 bowlers from the association's member clubs took part in the event, which was hosted by Ardgowan Bowling Club.

Ewan Boyle from Ardgowan Hospice, who is also a member of Lady Alice and who took part in the wapenshaw, said: "The donation will make such a difference to the work of the hospice.

"We rely on the generosity of local people and we would like to thank Greenock & District for their continued support.

"It is an absolutely brilliant donation."
