Big mouth Bayern Munich legends name Celtic as EASIEST Champions League draw before rivals hand Rodgers blueprint for success
Bullish pundit Lothar Matthaus has claimed that Bayern Munich have landed the easiest draw in the Champions League by being paired with Celtic.
The Hoops face a daunting task against the German giants this month if they are to carry on their European adventure after successful navigating the league phase. But legend Matthaus - the first player to play in five consecutive World Cups and now a top TV pundit - isn't having the Scottish Premiership side as a serious threat.
He said: "Bayern Munich got the easiest draw in the Champions League. I would say 99 per cent of Bayern fans are happy that they are playing against Celtic and not against Manchester City. Of course, City are not having a great season, but we know what outstanding quality the team has. Dortmund won 7-1 at home against Celtic, but RB Leipzig lost in Glasgow.
"So you can see the power that the stadium brings and the atmosphere that pushes the team. That is impressive. But Bayern has played in every big stadium in the world and mostly achieved good results.
"Celtic just don't have the quality. Bayern start to kick into gear at this time of the season. The players are really hungry for the Wednesday-Saturday rhythm and the big games this month."
But Holstein Kiel star Lewis Holtby - who previously played for Tottenham and Fulham - reckons his struggling side have shown Celtic just how vulnerable Bayern are. Bayern maintained their nine-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga at the on Saturday England captain Harry Kane became the highest-ever scoring player after 50 league games with a double in a 4-3 win over struggling Holstein Kiel, who are second bottom.
But German international Holtby reckons they had Bayern rattled after coming back from 4-0 down to almost snatch an unlikely draw. He said: "Unfortunately, we didn't take any points at the end.
"But if you can come back from a 4-0 deficit against such a top team, we can still take a lot of positives with us. Bayern are obviously a great team packed with quality players, but we managed to score three goals against them.
"In the end, it wasn't enough for a draw. With a little more luck, we could have taken a point. A lot of things have to come together to win points against Bayern Munich and we managed to score three goals at their home.
"Yes, they put us under enormous pressure at times, but we still managed to score a lot of goals. Overall, we can be proud of ourselves because we showed that we always believe in ourselves and can score goals."
