Biggest ever attendance and records smashed at Salisbury Parkrun's festive events

Salisbury parkrun saw its biggest-ever attendance over the festive period with records smashed.

The Christmas period saw Salisbury Parkrun put on four events within an eleven-day period with two extra runs taking place on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

The Christmas Day event was the largest attended in Salisbury parkrun's nine-year history with 457 people making their way around the Churchill Gardens route aided by 32 volunteers.

Christmas Day also saw both male and female records tumble with local runner Bea Woods taking six seconds off her own course record for a time of 16:40 and Axe Vally Runner, Jake Smith smashing 17 seconds of the previous record for a time of 14:38.

Salisbury Parkrun festive runs (Image: Salisbury Parkrun) A spokesperson for Salisbury parkrun said: "We believe that both Bea and Jake were possibly the two fastest parkrunners across the country on the festive runs.

"The more leisurely of us took in the festive atmosphere and made it within the hour."

Salisbury parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9am at Churchill Gardens, Southampton Road, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP1 2LW.

This event is hugely popular across the country and as of December 2024, there are over 1,300 parkrun.

Parkrun is funded through grants, sponsorship, voluntary donations, and its online shop. Donations have helped establish more than 50 park runs in areas of deprivation.
