Jeremy Dale has been appointed Birmingham City chief executive on an interim basis to ‘ensure a smooth leadership transition’ following the departure of Garry Cook.

Cook has stepped down for personal reasons after less than 18 months in the job. The former Manchester City supremo was appointed in July 2023 following Knighthead Capital Management’s takeover.

His short-term replacement is already well known to Blues supporters. Dale, like Cook, is a boyhood Bluenose and played an integral role in attracting American investors Knighthead to the Second City in the first place.

Dale, a former executive at global companies Microsoft and Motorola, brokered the deal for Knighthead to complete their takeover. In the last 18 months Dale has been a visible presence around the club and a part of its leadership team.

The relaunch of the Birmingham City Foundation has been thanks in no small part to Dale’s work. Dale has also played a part in the launch of the Official Supporters Club and regularly visits different branches to mingle with fans.

“Jeremy has a deep understanding of our vision and culture, and we are confident in his ability to guide Birmingham City during this transition,” said Blues chairman Tom Wagner. “Our commitment to excellence and progress remains steadfast as we continue to build on the solid foundation we’ve already established.”
