Birmingham City have confirmed they have taken up their option to sign Taylor Gardner-Hickman from Bristol City in the summer.

Gardner-Hickman, who will sign a three-year contract, has enjoyed a hugely impressive loan spell at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, featuring in 28 games across all competitions as the club fights on three fronts. Although Gardner-Hickman is a midfielder by trade, he has demonstrated superb versatility to excel at right-back and occasionally on the wing this season.

Arguably his most impressive performance to date in a Blues shirt came on Saturday when he played a starring role in the 2-1 win over Rotherham United. Manager Chris Davies spoke in glowing terms about Gardner-Hickman afterwards.

Davies said: “I’ve given him every job you could possibly have on a football pitch this season, all positions, and he’s full blooded, full hearted and he’s 100 percent every day and he’s 100 percent every game.”

Gardner-Hickman started his career at Blues’ neighbours West Bromwich Albion where he made 52 Championship appearances before joining Bristol City, initially on loan before the deal was made permanent this time last year. The 23-year-old played another 43 games in the second tier for the Robins and will hope to add to that with Blues next season.
