Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that Birmingham City have been in touch about the prospect of taking on some of the opposition's ticket allocation ahead of April's meeting between the two teams at the home of football.

The Irishman has revelled in his club's denying of the 'Hollywood derby' at Wembley in the Vertu Trophy final next month, with Blues set to face Posh who beat Wrexham, in their semi-final at the Racecourse Ground, despite being two goals down in the tie. Posh will bring a little over 25,000 supporters with them.

Blues have confirmed on Wednesday that their allocation exceeds 36,000, which might be a number which disappoints some, but MacAnthony - who watched his side win a more modest final last year (certainly by way of a turn-out on the day) - has maintained his prediction that there'll be 50,000 Bluenoses in situ that Sunday afternoon.

MacAnthony claims that Blues have made contact about the possibility of taking even more tickets inside Wembley via the opposing end - but he joked that director of football Barry Fry, Blues' former manager, has quoted his old club £1m if they wanted to turn the tables and wear their home colour blue in the final!

“I’m really happy for everyone to be going back to Wembley,” MacAnthony told the Peterborough Today. "I’m sure the plates and glasses were smashed at Sky, Disney, Paramount and everyone else who wanted the ‘Hollywood Final’ though. Instead we have the ‘Battle of the Champions.’ It will be David v Goliath and we can’t get carried away given who we are playing, but, on a big pitch, we can win.

"It should be a glorious occasion. Birmingham will probably bring 50,000 fans. I think they’ve already been on to Barry to have some of our allocation! And to be honest we won’t sell 50,000 and the more fans at the crowd the more money we make. They also asked Barry if they could play in Blue and he said ‘sure, for a million quid!"
