Birmingham City land Hansson boost as Davies gives Wright and Sampsted latest
Emil Hansson is closing in on a comeback for Birmingham City after making his return to light training.
The Swedish winger has been sidelined since pulling up during Blues’ 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers on October 22. Hansson has missed the last eight games as a result and isn’t expected to feature against Barnsley on Saturday.
Blues will visit Oakwell without three wingers after Keshi Anderson picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Stockport to incur a suspension. Scott Wright has been sidelined since mid-October and is behind Hansson in his recovery. Iceland international Alfons Sampsted is still out with an ankle issue.

“Emil Hansson is a little bit ahead of the other two, he’s back in training today,” Blues manager Chris Davies confirmed pre-Barnsley. “It’s light training but he’s back in with the squad. He’s getting there, step by step, and it’s been a big step up for him today.
“Scott and Alfons are a week or two behind that. They are getting there. Touch wood, as we approach Christmas, we can have them back for that period.”
Hansson scored once in 15 games for Blues before suffering his injury. The 26-year-old’s return to fitness will give Davies a much-needed wide option in the coming weeks.
