Birmingham City are praying Tomoki Iwata’s injury isn’t serious after the midfielder’s comeback was cut short at Huddersfield Town.

Iwata was on the end of a nasty challenge late on from Jonathan Hogg which led to him being replaced by skipper Krystian Bielik. Keshi Anderson’s superb strike settled the contest but Iwata’s injury put a dampener on a superb night for Blues.

“It was always a case of let’s get him to half-time and see how he is because he hasn’t done too much,” said Davies. “You know what you get with Tomoki, he’s intelligent and reads the game well, he’s quick across the ground and he can play one, two touches and sees the game really well.

“It was a real sore one for him with his injury, just as he was about to come off anyway, ironically, but we’ll have to see how he is in the next couple of days with that.”

Iwata had to be carried off by two members of Blues’ medical staff and hobbled out the stadium afterwards. Davies wasn’t happy with the nature of Hogg’s challenge on his midfield maestro.

“I do have a view on a lot of challenges,” the Blues boss said when asked for his opinion. “It didn't look great, the way he’s gone in on the top of his ankle there, but what can you do? We’ve had a few of those tonight and in other games and hopefully we can get a little bit of protection in some moments.”
