Birmingham City linked with USA international ‘set to leave’ his club in January
Birmingham City have been credited with an interest in USA international Lennard Maloney.
Maloney primarily plays as a midfielder for Bundesliga side FC Heidenheim, but he has also operated in defence this season. The Germany-born player has won two caps for the United States.
Heidenheim enjoyed a stunning 2023/24 season to finish eighth in the Bundesliga and qualify for the Europa Conference League. They have struggled this season though and currently sit 16th having lost 11 of their 15 matches.

According to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, Maloney wants to leave Heidenheim this month and clubs across the continent are queuing up. He claims a clutch of Bundesliga clubs, Greek side PAOK and ambitious Blues are interested in Maloney.
Posting on social media platform X, Plettenberg said: “PAOK and Birmingham are among several clubs showing concrete interest in a winter transfer for Lennard Maloney. The 25 y/o midfielder and US international is set to leave Heidenheim during the winter transfer window. Additionally, three Bundesliga clubs are engaged in concrete talks. Offers expected soon.”
Blues manager Chris Davies has four midfield players already in Tomoki Iwata, Paik Seung-ho, Marc Leonard and Taylor Gardner-Hickman.
