Birmingham City are set to have a significant following in the New Year when they head to Wigan Athletic to continue their League One assault. Blues head to the Brick Community Stadium on Saturday, January 4, following forthcoming clashes with Blackpool and Stockport County, to take on Shaun Maloney's side, who are 14th and have taken seven points from the last nine available.

Blues, as is often the case with sides heading to Wigan, have been granted a substantial allocation exceeding 4,000. Not every club's fanbase will command such a figure or threaten to sell that allocation out, but Blues haven't only sold those tickets but they have asked the Latics for more.

Blues' ticketing account on social media has confirmed they have been granted a further number which will boost the club's away backing on the day to more than 4,500. They posted: "We can confirm that we have received a further 320 tickets for our Sky Bet League One clash with Wigan, this brings our total allocation to 4,551. These will go on sale at 12pm onwards, both online and through the ticket office."

For many Blues supporters, this year has been an opportunity to visit a number of new grounds having spent the last 30 years between the top two divisions of English football - the actual allocations, though, have fluctuated depending on the size of the stadium Blues have visited.

At Wigan, though, away supporters are generally granted the whole stand behind the goal and Blues, as expected, have taken the maximum number of tickets on offer in order to ensure that Chris Davies and his players will be fully backed by a sizeable following from the West Midlands.
